The Reframe Method™ Explained
The Reframe Method™ is a behavior-aware, trauma-informed approach that shifts the focus from managing behavior to understanding the why behind it.
Grounded in neuroscience, attachment, and lived experience, The Reframe Method™ supports parents, educators, and caregivers in responding to children with clarity, compassion, and confidence. Rather than asking “How do we stop this behavior?”, the method invites a more powerful question:
“What is this child communicating, and what do they need right now?”
At its core, The Reframe Method™ recognizes that behavior is communication—not defiance—and that lasting change occurs when children feel emotionally safe, understood, and supported.
The ABC Foundation of The Reframe Method™
The foundation of The Reframe Method™ is built on three essential elements that shape regulation, learning, and behavior:
Agency
I have a voice. I have influence. I matter.
Agency refers to a child’s sense of autonomy and empowerment. When children experience agency, they are more likely to engage, cooperate, and regulate. Without it, behavior often shows up as resistance, shutdown, or power struggles.
Belonging
I am safe here. I am accepted. I am enough.
Belonging is the nervous system’s experience of emotional safety. It is built through consistency, inclusion, and unconditional regard. When belonging feels threatened, children may act out—not to disrupt, but to protect themselves from disconnection.
Connection
I am seen. I am heard. I am not alone.
Connection is the relational bridge that allows co-regulation to occur. It is established through presence, attunement, repair, and trust. Without connection, strategies fail; with connection, regulation becomes possible.
Why ABC Comes First in The Reframe Method™
Within The Reframe Method™, behavior is never the starting point—it is the outcome.
When agency, belonging, and connection are present:
Regulation increases
Learning expands
Behavior stabilizes
When they are missing:
Stress responses dominate
Survival behaviors emerge
“Challenging behavior” escalates
This approach acknowledges a simple truth:
Humans are biological before they are logical.
